      News

Some time has passed since the premiere of Canon PowerShot G5 X and today the producer decided to show a new version of the camera, calling it Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II - what a surprise.

The camera has been equipped with the 1" BSI-CMOS sensor with the resolution of 20.1MP, supported by the efficient processor from the DIGIC 8 series which is to guarantee high efficiency and speed of work. This set enables taking photographs with the maximum ISO sensitivity of 12800 and the speed of 30f/s with the use of the electronic shutter, or with the speed of 8f/s with full autofocus support.

When it comes to the autofocus, the camera is equipped with phase detection and the AF+MF function, with a possibility of image focusing in the automatic mode. We also have the in-built ND filter (!) at our disposal, which is going to prove useful while working on sunny days.

G5 X Mark II enables recording films in 4K with the speed of 30f/s as well as recording slow-motion films with the speed of 120f/s.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II has been equipped with the in-built universal 8.8-44mm lens (equivalent of 24-120mm for full frame) and the variable light of f/1.8-2.8.

Still, the biggest change in comparison to the camera's predecessor is the construction of the new camera. The previous model resembled the camera with the optical viewfinder whereas the new model looks like a popular compact camera.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II has a retractable electronic viewfinder with the resolution of 2.36 million points and 100% frame coverage. What's more, we also get a touch 3'' TFT LCD screen with the resolution of 1,040,000 points, which can be rotated upwards, thanks to which we may see ourselves while video blogging. The function wheel which, apart from basic photography modes, has a separate exposition compensation knob, also looks interesting.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II weighs 340g and it has in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, pop-up flash and the HDMI output.

The camera is to appear on sale in August and it will cost $899. You can check actual Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II price here.

        DESCRIPTION
Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is equipped witha 5× optical zoom with focal length 8.8-44mm and variable light f/1.8-2.8, which gives us an equivalent of 24-120mm for a full frame, which will provide us with the ability to capture wide shots and close-ups. The lens has additional optical stabilization, which improves its performance during the night time and during video recording.

The BSI-CMOS sensor measures 1" (13.2×8.8mm) and a 20.1MP resolution, which is supported by the DIGIC 8 processor, which is to guarantee high performance and speed of operation. Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is also able to photograph with sensitivities ISO 125-12800.

The camera saves files in RAW as well as JPEG format at a maximum resolution of 5472×3648px. The camera also has a wide range of other resolutions as well as aspect ratios.

The Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II also works great as a video camera. This compact camera allows recording videos in 4K resolution at 30fps (without crop) with the support of electronic image stabilization and 120fps slow motion recording.

The autofocus used in the camera is based on the contrast detection system with AF + MF function which gives us the opportunity to re-focus the image in automatic mode. Unfortunately, Canon has not decided to use the DualPixel AF in this camera. Autofocus has Face Detection function and touch AF ability.

When it comes to shooting speed, we have a "burst" function that uses an electronic shutter and allows you to shoot at 30fps as well as a function that uses a mechanical shutter that allows shooting at 8fps with full autofocus support.

PowerShot G5 X Mark II has a built-in electronic pop-up style viewfinder made in OLED technology with a resolution of 2.36 million points, which will provide 100% coverage of the frame. For this we also get a tilt and touch 3-inch TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 1.04 million points, who will help us compose shots from difficult perspectives, as well as photographing yourself, thanks to the possibility of tilting the screen 180 degrees up.

The camera looks like a classic compact, which is made of magnesium and plastic alloys. The G5 Mark II has two separate knobs, one for selecting the modes second for adjusting exposure compensation. The lens also has a focus adjustment ring. There is also a HDMI output without compression, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, a pop-up flash and a menu layout inspired by Canon EOS cameras, as well as extensive personalization capabilities, thanks to which we can quickly set the most appropriate parameters. As for a compact camera, the whole structure is extremely lightweight and weighs only 340g.

Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is a very interesting camera for people who need an extremely mobile alternative to heavy cameras with replaceable optics.

        COMPARISON WITH SIMILAR CAMERAS
The Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II competes in terms of performance and price with the two cameras. The first is the previous model, the Canon PowerShot G5 X, which gives way to this model mainly in terms of video function. This camera is available used or new at a very attractive price.

The second alternative for this model will be the camera that premiered the same day or the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Here the main difference lies in the lack of a built-in electronic viewfinder in this model. However, the difference in price is quite clear and it is worth considering if the lack of a viewfinder is worth as much as $150.
