    DJI Mavic Air Announcement

      News

DJI Mavic Air is the next, even more compact, version of the DJI Mavic Pro drone, which is possibly going to revolutionize the drone market once again. The latest Mavic links both the advanced functions of Mavic Pro with the compact construction of Spark.

The 3-axis gimbal, which is newly-designed and even more compact, is responsible for image quality in Mavic Air. It is supposed to offer smoother movements. The camera, equipped with the 12Mp 1/2.3’’ sensor, and the lens with the equivalent of 24mm f/2.8, have been mounted on the gimbal.

With the use of the device, one will be able to make films in 4K, but only with the speed up to 30f/s. In HD, we will have the available speed of 120f/s. The films are saved with the bitrate of 100MB/s.

When it comes to the new functions, now we can make spherical panoramas and the Boomerang function, with the use of which the drone flies around a given object like a boomerang, is also available. The drone can be controlled using gestures with the use of the Smart Capture function.

All these things are assisted by the improved system of active object-tracking, which detects up to 16 moving objects at once, and 6 cameras placed in the front, at the back, and on the bottom of the device, which support the obstacle detection and avoidance system.

As the first drone in history, DJI Mavic Air also possesses 8GB of built-in memory, which is surely going to be helpful when we forget our memory card or if the card becomes full.

The parameters of the device are impressive: the maximum speed of 68 km/h, the possibility of flying up to 5000 meters and the effective range of 2.5 km. The flight time is 21 minutes. It places the new drone in between Mavic Pro and Spark.

However, the greatest asset of the new DJI device is its construction. With the dimensions of 168×184×64mm and 168×83×49mm after assembly and the weight of 430g, it may be hidden in the jacket’s pocket without any problem. The remote control has also been re-designed, and it’s even more compact now.

DJI has crossed new limits when it comes to both photography and videography. The presented Zenmuse X7 camera has been designed having in mind Inspire 2 drone, which is to enable the highest image quality in this class of equipment. We can also expect that the company will introduce a specially adapted gimbal for this camera.

The heart of the camera is the Super 35mm sensor, which is supposed to have a wide dynamic range amounting to 14EV, thanks to which the camera will work perfectly in highly contrastive conditions.

With the use of Zenmuse X7, we will be able to record films in 6K CinemaDNG RAW or 5.2K Apple ProRes with the speed of 30f/s. Apart from that, we will be able to choose either 3.9K CinemaDNG RAW or 2.7K ProRes with the maximum speed of 59.94 f/s.

On board there is also a new DJI Cinema Color as well as the improved D-Log Curve and D-Gamut RGB, which is to enable more flexibility during further material post production.

Together with the camera, the producer has also presented four dedicated lenses with the focal length of 16mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm, with f/2.8 aperture.

These compact and very light lenses are made of carbon fibre. The lens with the focal length of 16mm has been equipped with an inbuilt gray filter. The remaining three models have mechanical shutters.

DJI Zenmuse X7 and the lenses will be available on sale in November. The camera will cost around $2700 and ach of the fixed lenses: 16mm, 24mm, 35mm – around $1300. The price of the model with the focal length is around $1200.

One can also buy a set: Zenmuse X7 camera and four lenses. The price for such a set is around $4300.

If you don’t have Inspire 2 drone, you will have to add around $3000 to the general price, which will amount to around $7300.
