SD Association has presented a new format of the SD and microSD cards which is supposed to ensure 10× greater transfer speed than the best cards which are currently on the market.

New SD Express cards are to offer the data read speed at the level of 985 MB/s. The NVMe 1.3 and PCIe 3.1 interfaces will make the cards need much less energy despite their much greater speed.

The second great news is the information that Sony and, among others, ProGrade will introduce on sales the CFexpress cards, which have been expected for almost 3 years. The new medium is to be represented in the Tough series, characterized by big resistance to adverse external conditions such as temperature, X-rays, falls and crushing. Additionally, the card buyers may download for free the Media Scan Utility and File Rescue applications, which will inform about the card status, including the level of exploitation of flash memory. They will also enable the recovery of the data lost from the card.

The Sony CFexpress cards are to appear on the market at the beginning of summer 2019, in the versions with the capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB. Their prices are not known yet. In addition, the CFexpress MRW-G1 card reader, which is also compatible with the XQD cards, will appear on sale too.
