    Nikon Z 6 Filmmaker's Kit Announced

      News

At the CES fairs, Nikon has announced that a special Nikon Z 6 Filmmaker's Kit will appear on sale at the end of January. The kit will include Nikon Z 6 with the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens, FTZ adapter, Atomos Ninja V recorder, Moza Air 2 gimbal, Rode VideoMic Pro+ and the additional battery as well as a few less necessary  accessories.

The whole set will cost $4,000 and, according to the producer's calculations, by buying the whole set we will save $1200. Still, according to our calculations, we will save at most $650 but if we don't need Vimeo Pro Plan - only $430.

Nikon Z 6 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens and FTZ Adapter - $2,750
    Atomos Ninja V 5" Recording - $700
    Moza Air 2  Gimbal Stabilizer - $600
    Nikon EN-EL15b  Battery - $60
Rode VideoMic Pro Plus Microphone - $300
    Moza Magic Arms - $20
    Vimeo Pro Plan - $220

What's more, Nikon has announced that the expansion of the compatibility of new Z 6 and Z 7 bodies by the support for CFexpress cards (the successor of the XQD format), which have been announced for around 2 years, should soon appear on the consumer market. There are also works on the Eye AF function, namely eye-detection and a possibility of video recording in the ProRes RAW codec. This option will be a available only in the case of the external recorder, Atomos Ninja V.

As for now, we don't know when the firmware which  should enable enriching the camera by the mentioned functions, will appear on sale. Still, we can expect that it will take a few months.

      DESCRIPTION
Nikon Z 6 and Nikon Z 7 are two cameras which start a new chapter in the company’s history. These are the first full-frame mirrorless cameras of the producer and they are additionally equipped with a much bigger lens mount - Z-Mount.

The Z 6 model has been created to ensure the best possible results in low light. If the camera was not equipped with only one memory card, it would be perfect for reporting and wedding photography.

Nikon Z 6 is equipped with the 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor and the 5-axis vibration stabilization system (with the estimated effectiveness of 5 EV). The sensor is supported by the latest-generation EXPEED 6 processor which enables work within the ISO range of 100-51200 and photographing with the maximum speed of 12f/s.

Besides that, we also get the hybrid (contrast-detection and phase-detection) AF system based on 273 points, which covers 90% of the frame vertically and horizontally and which is going to be fully useful also while recording films.

When it comes to the film mode, Z 6 enables recording films in 4K UHD (3840 × 2160 pixels) with the speed of 30f/s, in the full-frame mode. In the case of Full HD films, the highest available speed is 120f/s, which will be surely appreciated by slow-motion fans. What’s more, even while recording in 4K, we get the electronic vibration reduction support and the camera enables saving images in the “flat” Nikon N-log profile as well as issuing 10-bit signal to external recorders with the use of HDMI.

The camera will surely not disappoint when it comes to the preview since the device is equipped with the electronic OLED viewfinder with the resolution of 3.690.000 points and the 0.8× zoom. In addition, the eyepiece is covered with the fluorine coating, which will facilitate keeping it clean. We also shouldn’t forget about an auxiliary LCD screen placed on the upper panel.

The camera’s body has been sealed against dust and splashes. It has two control knobs and the AF joystick on the back panel as well as the PASM knob. Unfortunately, there is only one memory card slot (XQD).

Unluckily, we will not find the dedicated measurement mode control button, the AF switching lever and the serial mode switch. Still, it’s worth noticing that we get three user modes and function buttons, which, after configuration, should ensure convenient camera control. The producer has also made sure that the handling of the camera should not cause any problems to the existing Nikon users. The camera has the menu taken from top reflex cameras, together with a handy panel which will enable the regulation of the most important photography parameters.
