Today, we received a specification and the description of properties of the sixth generation of the advanced compact cameras Sony RX100. Cameras from the RX100 series have determined boundaries of achievements of pocket-size compact cameras for a long time. It appears that Sony engineers have  again risen to the challenge.

    1). Sony RX100 VI

RX100 VI is equipped with the 1'' sensor, in Exmor RS technology, with the resolution of 10.1MP. ISO range = 125 to 12800, can be extended to ISO 80-25600. The sensor's resolution has not changed in comparison to the predecessor, but thanks to the use of Bionz X processor, together with LSI chip and dedicated DRAM memory, the camera's efficiency has doubled. Strong hardware of RX100 enables taking photographs with the speed of 24f/s or even 233 JPEG photographs in 'Fine' quality in the buffer. The camera offers the fastest autofocus in its class, based on 315 phase-detection points, with 65% frame coverage. The focusing time is 0.03s.

The speed of face tracking and recognition has been doubled, in comparison to its predecessor. Thanks to the use of a sensor with faster sampling, the rolling-shutter effect can be significantly minimized.

    3). Sony RX100 VI

The Sony RX100 VI lens is yet another novelty. It is equipped with the zoom with the equivalent of 24-200mm and it is based on 15 lenses (10 aspherical ones, including 2 low-dispersion lenses), placed in 12 groups.  The aperture range of the lens is f/2.8 - f/4.5 - these parameters are significantly worse than on the case of the predecessor. When the new camera is in the hands of the customers, we will be able to assess whether a new processor reduces the noise in the photographs taken in low light. Now we can suspect that the optical stabilization system, with the efficiency of 4 EV should help in reducing image noises.

    4). Sony RX100 VI

A new thing in the new Sony is a fully touch LCD screen, with the resolution of 1228 thousand points.  The screen can be folded by 180 degrees upwards and 90 degrees downwards. This should definitely satisfy vloggers and selfie lovers. The camera is also equipped with a retractable electronic viewfinder, with the resolution of 2359 thousand points and the flash.

Videos will be recorded in 4K HDR, in the resolution of 3840×2160, with the use of the Hybryd Long Gamma profile. Full HD materials will be recorded with the speed of 120f/s, and in slow motion, the camera will be able to record even 1000 frames during one second.

Sony RX100 VI is to appear on sale next month and its price, as for today, is $1,200 and you can order this camera here.

Sony has announced two new external mobile SSD discs, which are supposed to meet high requirements concerning resistance to damage.

The discs will be sold in two versions. The cheaper compact version will be marked as SL-C and a bit bigger, more effective version will be marked as SL-M.

The discs will be resistant to the compression forces up to 6 tons and bending forces up to 2 tons. What’s more, the disc is resistant to falls from 3 meters and it is also waterproof. The devices will be made of aluminum and sold with a set of stickers (which will enable their identification) as well as anti-slip rubber strips.

SL-M will enable transfers at the level of 1000MB/s, whereas the SL-C series is to offer the speed of read-write speed at the level of 520-540 MB/s. As one could easily notice, the differences in the speed are almost twofold.

The discs will also have hardware encryption of data with the use of the 256-bit AES key, password protection and the Lifetime Checker tool, which will enable checking the state of the data carrier. In addition, the SSD Utility application will make it possible to install the updates which will introduce potential corrections and will improve the work of the disc.

The discs will appear on sale in autumn 2019 in the versions with the capacities of 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The price is not known yet but one may expect that these will not be cheap devices.
