Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Announcement

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM from the professional G Master series is a new lens intended to be used in landscape and architectural photography.

The optical system consists of 16 elements placed in 13 groups, including 5 aspherical lenses and 2 made of low-dispersion glass. Such a solution is to ensure perfect focus within the whole frame view and minimize chromatic aberration. Additionally, the lenses are covered with Nano AR coatings, which are supposed to reduce light reflection and ensure high contrast. The front lens is additionally covered with a fluorine coating, which makes it easier to clean the lens from dirt and other forms of contamination.

Similarly to other lenses from the G Master series, Sony used a 11-blade aperture. A well-known system of two ultrasonic DDSSM motors is responsible for adjusting focus.

The whole construction is, of course, sealed and it weighs 680g, which is a good result for such a professional lens.

Sony has presented yet another version of its top camera in the universal version - a7 III model.

The latest generation of the successor of a7 II is supposed to be the nail in the coffin of DSLR's  - at least, that's what the most devoted fans of the company say ;-) However, we can be sure that the price-possibilities ratio should attract all of the undecided people who want to check mirrorless Sony cameras.

      1). Sony A7 III
The camera is equipped with a new 24.2Mp BSI CMOS Exmor R sensor, which is to offer the 15-grade dynamic system and better color reproduction. The sensor can also work within the ISO sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 (which can be extended to ISO 50-204 800). The sensor has, of course, 5-axis stabilization with the effectiveness of 5 EV.

The BIONZ X processor enables work with the speed of 10f/s (8f/s in the electronic shutter mode) and saving up to 177 JPEG photographs and 89 RAW photographs during ones shooting. In contrast to the predecessor, we can use the menu while processing photographs.

      2). Sony A7 III
The autofocus is an effective system based on 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection points, which cover 93% of the frame. The autofocus is supposed to effectively track the eye of the photographed person in the continuous shooting mode AF-C.

      3). Sony A7 III
As could be expected frorm the Alfa series, the camera is also equipped with advanced video functions. It enables full-frame video recording in 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) with the speed of 30f/s (unfortunately, not 60f/s). We also have flat profiles S-Log 2 and S-Log 3 at our disposal, which give us more possibilities of color grading in post production.

In addition, we can record Full HD files with the speed of 120f/s, the bit rate of 100 Mb/s and full autofocus support, which enables the recording of films in 5x slow motion. We can also use the HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) profile, which facilitates the creation of HDR films.

      4). Sony A7 III
When it comes to the construction, the new model is almost identical to Sony a7R III. The body is fully made of magnesium and it has new seallings. We have a 3'' LCD touch screen, which cannot be used to browse through menu. The 2.36Mp electronic viewfinder is known from the previous version (a7R III has been equipped with the 3.6Mp viewfinder).

Besides that, we have a new SD memory card slot and an additional USB-C connector, which can be used to power and charge the camera.

It is also worth mentioning new buttons and a knob, which are much more precise than they used to be.

      5). Sony A7 III
The new Sony a7 III will appear on the market in April. Its price is very attractive - $1999 for the body and $2200 in a set with the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens.
Tokina Fírin 20mm f/2.0 FE AF is a fixed lens which has been designed having in mind a full-frame Sony E system. The first version of the lens had the same parameters but it was not equipped with the autofocus. This version will not disappear from the market but it will be a manual alternative of the lens.
Inside the new lens, we will find an advanced optical system consisting of 13 elements placed in 11 groups. Among them, we will find two aspherical lenses and three super-low dispersion lenses, whose task is to minimize aberration and image distortion.  In addition, the lenses have been covered with anti-reflective coatings.

The lens is equipped with the 9-blade aperture, which can be regulated within the scope of f/2 to f/22.

      1). Tokina FíRIN 20mm f/2.0 FE AF
An ultrasonic motor, supported by GMR sensor, is responsible for focusing. As a result, we can enjoy a quick and quiet image re-focusing, from the minimum distance of 28 cm.

The body of Tokina FíRIN 20mm f/2.0 FE AF is made of metal. The tubus, with a very attractive look, has the dimensions of 73.4x81.5mm and it weighs 469g. The lens is to appear on sale at the end of May. We don't know its price yet.
Sigma has presented its latest baby -  the 14-24 mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art lens. The lens, thanks to the use  of the newest technologies, is supposed to determine a completely new standard on the market of wide-angle lenses.

Optically, the lens is to be adjusted to the requirements of sensors with a huge number of megapixels, which are more and more often used in cameras. The sensors used in Nikon D850 or Canon 5Ds easily show the weaknesses of the optical system.

      1). Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art
Inside the latest Sigma zoom, we are going to find an advanced optical system consisting of 17 elements placed in 11 groups.

Three of them are FLD lenses, the next three are made of low-dispersion SLD glass and there are also three aspherical elements. As a result, the lens should offer perfect contrast and image quality of high resolution.

Besides that, each lens has been covered with anti-reflective coatings which are supposed to ensure effective elimination of light leaks and flares.

      2). Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art - Construction
The lens is equipped with a 9-blade round aperture. The angle of view of Sigma 14-24 mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art (for full frame) is 114.2°-84.1°, and the maximum zoom is 1:5.4.

The thing that the producer is proud of is minimal distortion, at the level of 1% (if we adjust focus to infinity), which is certainly a great achievement when it comes to ultra-wide lenses. The photographers using this lens for architecture photography will be extremely satisfied.

A quick and precise HSM motor has been used in the lens. It enables any kind of focusing of a photographed scene, without a need to switch to the MF mode. The minimum focus distance is 26-28cm.

      3). Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art
Sigma 14-24 mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art is the first of the producer's lenses from the Art series which has seallings. Possibly, a competitive company - Tamron - has forced Sigma to do this since they have often used this fact in their marketing materials.

The new Sigma is fully sealed, which should be obvious if the lens is to be used by landscape photographers.

Besides that, the lens should also satisfy film-makers.  In order to meet the expectations of such users, the authorized service of the producer offers a payable replacement of a tulip solar cover for the wheel cover, which makes it easier to mount additional accessories.

The lens will be available with Sigma, Nikon and Canon mounts. The lens is also compatible with the MC-11 converter, thanks to which Sony users will have possibilities of connecting the lens with the Canon mount.

Unfortunately, we don't know the price and the date of availability of the 14-24 mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art model.
