Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Announcement

      News

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM from the professional G Master series is a new lens intended to be used in landscape and architectural photography.

The optical system consists of 16 elements placed in 13 groups, including 5 aspherical lenses and 2 made of low-dispersion glass. Such a solution is to ensure perfect focus within the whole frame view and minimize chromatic aberration. Additionally, the lenses are covered with Nano AR coatings, which are supposed to reduce light reflection and ensure high contrast. The front lens is additionally covered with a fluorine coating, which makes it easier to clean the lens from dirt and other forms of contamination.

Similarly to other lenses from the G Master series, Sony used a 11-blade aperture. A well-known system of two ultrasonic DDSSM motors is responsible for adjusting focus.

The whole construction is, of course, sealed and it weighs 680g, which is a good result for such a professional lens.

Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE is a proof that the company has treated the development of the series of lenses with autofocus for full-frame Sony E system very seriously. Three lenses are already available on the market, and the next one has just joined them. Similarly to the previous ones, it has been designed having in mind both enthusiasts and professional photographers, who do not want to spend fortune on the systemic Sony lenses.

The optical system consisting of 11 elements placed in 9 groups is responsible for image quality. Among the elements, we can find 2 aspherical lenses and 2 high-refractive ones. Some of the lenses are covered with Ultra Multi Coating, which minimizes the emergence of light leaks and lens flares. The used optical system and 9-blade aperture are to generate unique image plasticity with soft blurrings and pleasant bokeh effect.

The lens is also equipped with an improved autofocus system – LSM (Linear Super sonic Motor), which is supposed to be quieter, faster and more precise. It is also supposed to work in harder lighting conditions.

The lens weights 645g and possibly does not have any sealings.

New Samyang, thanks to its minimalist design, is very similar to Sony lenses and it will certainly cooperate with full-frame mirrorless cameras of the producer.

We don’t know the exact price of the lens yet, but we can expect it to be below $600, so around $1000 less than Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.40 ZA.

Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a successor of the SP 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD model, presented in 2012, which for many years has been a great alternative to much more expensive lenses of producers such as Nikon and Canon.

The optical system of new Tamron consists of 17 lenses placed in 12 groups. It includes 2 XR elements with high refractive index, 3 low-dispersion ones, 3 aspherical GM lenses and one hybrid apsheric lens. eBand Coating, the technology which improves anti-reflective effectiveness and working against the light, has also been used. The front lens is covered with fluroide layer, which makes it easier to remove dirt from its surface.

Tamron SP 24-70 mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is equipped with dual MPU processor, which is responsible for the whole control system, including image stabilization and USD motor. Thanks to that, the autofocus should be much faster and more precise than in the older model. The minimum focus distance is supposed to be barely 15" (38cm).

When it comes to design, the new model matches other lenses from the whole Tamron series. The lens is, of course, sealed.

Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is to appear on sale in the second half of July 2017. It will cost around $1200.

Together with the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens, Sony also presented a second one – this time, a super wide-angle FE 12-24mm f/4 G zoom, which is, at the moment, the widest lens of the producer. The lens is mainly intended for interior, architectural and landscape photography, and it should also fulfil its role in recording films.

The optical lens of Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G consists of 17 elements placed in 13 groups. Advanced aspherical lenses (4 elements) as well as low-dispersion ones (4 elements) have been applied. Nano AR coating as well as the fluorine coating of the front element have been used.

The lens is equipped with a smaller, 7-blade aperture, and only one ultrasonic DDSSM motor is responsible for adjusting focus.

The lens is sealed and it weighs 566g, having the dimensions of 87x117mm. These are really compact dimensions for a full-frame lens with such parameters.

Sony FE 12-24 mm f/4 G is to appear on sale in July and it will cost $1700.
