  1. Press release: The New Generation of the Powerful and Versatile Wide-Angle Lens Teaneck, October 26, 2023 - Leica Camera AG’s experience and expertise in the development of optical precision tools goes back more than 150 years. Since then, handmade cameras and lenses have been created in the Leica Manufactory – with no less a claim than to rank among the best in the world. Up to the present day, this claim has been the source of the innovative spirit and the passion to rethink the existing without compromise and to keep redefining the limits of what is technically feasible. The same is true for the Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH.: with its further development, the consequently updating M-Lens portfolio offers a state-of-the-art, versatile wide-angle lens. The new powerful high-speed M-Lens presents itself with improved technical features which equip the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. ideally for the latest sensor technology and thus for current as well as future camera generations. At the same time, the combination of the wide-angle with the closest focusing distance extended from 70 to 40 centimeters opens up additional photographic possibilities. Focusing up to 70 centimeters still works via the range finder of all digital and analogue M-Cameras. After a slightly perceptible resistance, the extended close-up range between 70 and 40 centimeters can be precisely focused via Live-View on the screen, the Visoflex 2 viewfinder or with the Leica FOTOS app. Due to the compactness typical of M-Lenses, the new Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. is also characterized by handiness. The lens hood in a modern, round design is directly integrated in the lens, which makes it especially comfortable. It can now be screwed in or unscrewed with only a flick of the wrist at any time. Inside the lens, 9 lenses in 6 groups provide for images that are extremely rich in contrast and detail. The focus ring can be adjusted in a remarkably quiet and smooth way. So, the Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. shows exactly the precision which is distinctive of Leica products and not only bears the quality label “Made in Germany” but also shapes it significantly. The Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. will be available globally at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and Leica authorized dealers starting November 30th, 2023. The US retail price will be $5,295.
  2. Press releise: Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. Wetzlar, April 13th 2023 The long-established company Leica Camera AG revolutionised the world of photography more than once. One of these sensations was the introduction of the Leica M series in 1954, which has been making history with M cameras and lenses up to the present day. One of these legendary M lenses has now been consequently refined and presents itself with the latest high-end technology while keeping its compact and lightweight design: the Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. – for even more flexibility and freedom when taking pictures. With its standard focal length of 50 mm, the new Summilux-M is suited for almost every photographic situation. Like all M lenses, it is characterised by an unmistakably high image quality. The new Summilux-M exploits the full performance potential of new camera sensors and offers exceptionally high-contrast and detailed results even in difficult light conditions. Moreover, 11 instead of 9 aperture blades ensure a visibly rounder bokeh. The closest focusing distance has also been extended, from 70 cm to 45 cm. This was only made possible by the double cam gear specially developed by Leica engineers. As a consequence, the rotation angle of the distance ring could be greatly expanded compared to the previous model so that focusing has become even more precise over the entire setting range. At the same time, neither the frame size nor the sensitivity of the focus has been changed, which makes the lens particularly comfortable to handle even when focusing in the extended close-up range. Up to 70 centimetres, focusing is done, as usual, via the range finder of the digital and analogue M cameras. For focusing in the extended close-up range between 70 and 45 centimetres, it is necessary to use Live View on the screen, the Visoflex or the Leica FOTOS app after a discreetly perceptible resistance. Just like the 35 mm model from the high-speed Summilux-M series, the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. has now been refined technically and optically. The lens hood also shows a round design with a focal length of 50 mm. Directly integrated in the lens, it can be screwed in or unscrewed at any time with only a flick of the wrist. Just like the previous model, the new Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. is available in the silver or black anodised version. The focal length classic is suited for all current and for all future M cameras. In combination with the M-Adapter L, the Summilux-M also enables photographing and filming with the Leica SL2 and the SL2-S. This is system compatibility “Made by Leica”. The Leica Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH. will be available globally at Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and authorized dealers starting now. The retail price of the M lens will be €4,550.00 including VAT for the black version and € 4,750.00 including VAT for the silver version. Leica Camera AG.
  3. Press release: Panasonic Introduces a Redesigned F2.8 Large Aperture 24-70mm Wide Zoom MFT Lens LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-ES12035) December 14, 2022 Newark, NJ - Panasonic today announced a new large-aperture wide zoom lens, the LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (35mm camera equivalent: 24-70 mm) for the LUMIX G Series, a display of its continued commitment to the development of Micro Four Thirds lenses to fulfill the needs of its customers. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. is a versatile lens ideal for virtually any shooting situation thanks to its large aperture, O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) integration, compact size, and lightweight profile. This lens is a redesigned replacement for the LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35 mm / F2.8 II ASPH., widely considered one of Panasonic’s best LUMIX G Micro Four Thirds lenses. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. is comprised of fourteen lens elements in nine groups, including four aspherical lenses, one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) to achieve high optical performance. The glass material of the UHR lens element is newly updated with higher transmittance to achieve greater natural color reproduction. Panasonic’s unique nano surface coating provides effective antireflection and produces clear description. Due to its thin coating with nanometer-level microstructure and an ultra-low dispersion ratio, the reflection of the entire wavelength of 380-780 mm, including visual light range, are reduced. Together with a newly adopted light-shielding part, occurrence of ghost and flare is minimized. For more versatile use, the LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. features shorter focusing distance of 0.15m (at wide-end) with a larger magnification ratio of 0.21x (at 17mm), compared with the conventional LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm / F2.8 II ASPH. with 0.25m of focusing distance and 0.17x of magnification ratio. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. offers smooth, silent operation with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system, with the sensor drive at a maximum 240 fps. It also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing and includes a micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change. Combined with the camera’s body I.S. and the lens’ O.I.S., Dual I.S. 2 provides effective hand-shake correction. The external design has also been refined compared to the previous lens. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. features stunning mobility with its approximately 306 g compact size, light weight, and rugged dust/splash-resistant* design that withstands use under harsh conditions even at 10 degrees below zero centigrade. The filter diameter is 58 mm, with a 7-blade circular aperture diaphragm. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm will be available at valued channel partners at the end of February 2023 for $899.99. Design and specifications are subject to change without notice. *Dust and Splash Resistant does not guarantee that damage will not occur if this lens is subjected to direct contact with dust and water.
