  1. Press release: TAMRON Announces Ultra-telephoto Zoom for FUJIFILM X-Mount 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057) Compact 750mm (full-frame equivalent) offers easy super telephoto shooting opportunities September 20, 2022, Commack, NY - Tamron announces the launch of the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057), an ultra-telephoto zoom lens for FUJIFILM X-mount. The lens is will be on sale October 13, 2022 at $1499. However, due to the current global health crisis, the release date or product supply schedule could change. The 150-500mm F5-6.7 covers a full-frame equivalent focal length range of 225mm to 750mm, combining compact size with stunning image quality across the entire zoom range—from the center of the image to the edges. Photographers can now easily enjoy the benefits of ultra-telephoto photography with its easy-to-handle compact body. The new ultra-telephoto zoom is equipped with the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) precise and high-speed linear motor focus mechanism and TAMRON’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism. At the 150mm end, the lens offers an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 23.6” for powerful and dramatic close-ups. PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS 1. Compact 750mm equivalent¹ ultra-telephoto zoom lens Although it reaches the ultra-telephoto focal length equivalent of 750mm, the 150-500mm F5-6.7 is still quite compact in size with a length of just 8.3” and a maximum diameter of 93mm. Even when extended fully to the telephoto end, the length of the lens is only 11.2” so it can be used comfortably. The lens zooms from 150mm to 500mm by rotating the zoom ring through an arc of just 75° that enables rapid adjustment to the desired angle of view with minimal movement, avoiding missed opportunities and facilitating intuitive composition. 2. Amazing high image quality The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups. The generous and effective use of special lens elements including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) element, five LD (Low Dispersion) elements, and two Hybrid Aspherical lens elements thoroughly controls aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. And because the 150-500mm F5-6.7 is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, it delivers extremely high image quality and overall performance across the entire zoom range, in the center and from edge-to-edge. 3. VXD AF motor provides high speed, high precision, and excellent quietness The 150-500mm F5-6.7 features the VXD linear motor focus mechanism. VXD delivers high-speed and high-precision movement and ensures responsive performance. Additionally, the linear motor also reduces drive noise and vibrations produced during focusing (as compared to a conventional drive system), making it ideal for shooting both still photos and video in low-noise environments. 4. TAMRON’s acclaimed VC delivers excellent image stabilization The slim, compact 150-500mm F5-6.7 is equipped with TAMRON’s VC mechanism. The lens features a VC mode selection switch with three settings (Mode 1: Standard, Mode 2: Exclusively for Panning, and Mode 3: Framing Priority) so the ideal VC mode can be invoked to match shooting conditions. This functionality delivers excellent image stabilization performance, enabling efficient reduction of image blur caused by camera shake. 5. Telephoto-macro shooting unleashes excellent close-range shooting performance The 150-500mm F5-6.7 offers excellent close-up shooting capabilities for an ultra-telephoto lens. The MOD is 23.6” at the 150mm end and 70.9” at the 500mm telephoto end. The maximum magnification ratio at 150mm is exceptionally high at 1:3.1 (the full-frame equivalent of 1:2.1). Users can shoot powerful telephoto-macro images of subjects including flowers and insects while maintaining a reasonable shooting distance — closer than you can get with conventional ultra-telephoto zoom lenses. 6. Additional features for greater convenience Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount with strap attachment holes included Lens hood with flexible, protective front portion Switch designed for ease of operation and handling FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism to support greater usability Equipped with an MF SPEED switch that is handy when focusing manually 7. BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating delivers stunning clarity and contrast 8. Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating provide extra protection Footnotes ¹ Full-frame equivalent focal length
  2. Press release: Ricoh announces two 50mmF1.4 lenses, each offering a uniquely distinct design concept Contemporary... or nostalgic? New HD Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 and smc Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic allow photographers to choose the standard lens that best fits their style, creative aesthetic and applications. PARSIPPANY, NJ, May 16, 2023 – Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation today announced the HD PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 and the smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic lenses. Developed for use with PENTAX K-mount digital SLR cameras, these new compact standard lenses are similar…but different. Each offers a uniquely distinct design concept, allowing photographers to choose the lens that best fits their style, creative aesthetic and applications. The new lenses are based on the legacy smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 lens, which was launched in 1991 as a standard lens for film-format SLR cameras. In recent years, this base model has gained popularity because it delivers a distinctive image rendition at open and larger apertures — a rendition completely different from those produced by today's digital-specific lenses. Both feature the same focal length and open aperture, and—despite the lenses' compact dimensions—both incorporate large-diameter optical elements that cover the full-frame image circle of K-mount cameras. However, the lenses are designed to produce distinctively different image renditions, allowing photographers to choose the lens that best meets their needs. The HD PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 adds the latest, high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating to ensure high-contrast images with edge-to-edge sharpness, while retaining the dimensions of its base model — the smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 — this lens features a totally new exterior design, similar to that of the latest DA- and D FA-series lenses. This makes it a perfect match for the latest PENTAX digital SLR cameras. The smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic produces a unique image rendition commonly created by lenses designed 50 years ago. When set to open aperture and against strong backlight, it produces a unique visual effect commonly known as rainbow flare. The photographer can change the position and size of the rainbow flare by shifting the relative position of the subject and light source, creating a one-and-only visual expression not available with the latest lenses. By closing down the aperture to F4 or smaller, the photographer can capture sharper, crisper images that are free of not only rainbow flare, but also ordinary flare and ghost images. The smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic retains the exterior design of the original smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4, with a black matte finish and a matte-black focus ring. It has no green ring — the symbolic design of recent PENTAX digital-specific lenses — to recreate the nostalgic appearance of an old-time lens from the film-format SLR era. Pricing and Availability The new lenses will be available mid-June at www.us.ricoh-imaging.com as well as at Ricoh Imaging-authorized retail outlets. The manufacturer's suggested retail prices are $349.95 for the HD PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 lens and $379.95 for the smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic lens. Main Features of the HD Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 HD Coating* to enhance imaging power After a thorough review of the lens coatings applied to the ever-popular smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4, PENTAX decided to apply the latest, high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating to this new lens. Compared to conventional multi-layer coatings, this high-performance coating effectively reduces average reflectance and improves light transmittance, delivering clear, high-contrast images with minimal flare and ghost images, even in demanding lighting conditions such as backlighting. *HD stands for High Definition. New exterior design to match the latest digital SLR models While retaining the dimensions of its base model — the smc PENTAX-FA50mm F1.4 — this lens features a totally new exterior design, similar to that of the latest DA- and D FA-series lenses. This makes it a perfect match for K-series digital SLR cameras. Main Features of the smc Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 Classic Distinctive imaging characteristics Through intentional fine-tuning of the lens design, this lens produces a unique visual effect commonly known as rainbow flare when it captures an image at open aperture* and against strong backlight.** It lets the photographer change the position and size of rainbow flare by shifting the relative position of the subject and light source, creating a unique, one-and-only visual expression not available with the latest lenses. By closing the aperture down to F4 or smaller, the photographer can capture sharper, crisper images that are free of not only rainbow flare, but also ordinary flare and ghost images. * It may be difficult to create rainbow flare when the lens is mounted on an APS-C-format digital SLR camera, because the camera's image sensor is designed to use only the central area of the image circle. ** During shooting, the user is advised to mount an ND (Neutral Density) filter (included as a standard accessory), or a commercial ND filter designed to reduce light transmittance to lower than a 1/16 level, on the lens. When observing an image through the camera's optical viewfinder, the user is advised to avoid looking directly at strong light sources. Nostalgic design This lens retains the exterior design of the smc PENTAX-FA 50mm F1.4, featuring a black matte finish and a matte-black focus ring. It has no green ring — the symbolic design of recent PENTAX digital-specific lenses — to recreate the nostalgic appearance of an old-time lens from the film-format SLR era. Common Features When mounted on a PENTAX digital SLR camera body, these lenses can be used as 50mm standard lenses in the full-frame format or 76.5mm medium-telephoto lenses in the APS-C format. With a full-frame camera, they provide an angle of view close to that of the human visual field, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications, such as snapshots, scenic images and portraiture. The large F1.4 open aperture produces images with a very shallow depth of field. Water- and grease-repellent SP (Super Protect) Coating has been applied to the front surface of the lenses, making it easier for the user to wipe off water or stains. The eight-blade diaphragm control mechanism produces a soft, natural bokeh (defocus) effect from open aperture to F2.8 and also minimizes the streaking effect of point light sources. Designed to be fully compatible with older K-mount digital SLR cameras and film-format AF SLR cameras, these lenses allow the photographer to retain all camera functions, thanks to the aperture ring installed on the lens body, and the mechanism designed to couple the lens with the camera's motor-driven, in-body AF system.
  3. Press release: The splendor of full radiance: Nikon releases the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena With an Emphasis on Extreme Peripheral Illumination, the Plena is a New Visual Experience with Dreamy Bokeh, Fast Aperture and Beautiful Compression Melville, New York, September 27, 2023 - Today Nikon Inc. announced the release of the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena, an impressively unique lens for Nikon Z series mirrorless cameras. This new mid-telephoto prime lens bestows astonishingly high resolution, edge-to-edge brightness, incredible sharpness and spectacularly dramatic bokeh, all while elevating the threshold of what’s possible with optical technology. The name "Plena" is derived from the Latin term plenum, which denotes the state of a space being completely full. This name was chosen to reflect the lens’ ability to fulfill the user’s creative vision with superior light gathering capability, beautiful, well-rounded bokeh and outstanding sharpness and clarity throughout the frame. Following in the footsteps of the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct, this distinctively brilliant portrait prime is only the second Nikon lens to be granted a dedicated name, with the hope that it will be highly regarded by users for many years to come. "The Plena is a beautiful lens in every way. From the premium metal exterior to the brightness and image rendering that’s nothing short of breathtaking, this is a lens that needs to be experienced," said Jay Vannatter, Executive Vice President, Nikon Inc. "This is exactly the kind of incredible optical innovation that our engineers promised was in our future, which could only be developed with the wider diameter and shorter flange distance of the next generation Z mount." This truly special optic is engineered with a focus on superior peripheral illumination, which is the ability to deliver the maximum amount of light to the far edges of the frame. The result is abundant brightness from edge-to-edge, with clear, bright subject distinction throughout. The combination of brightness, bokeh quality and extreme sharpness makes for vibrant images with a mystical pop of three-dimensionality. The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena is part of the S-Line[1] and takes advantage of the Z mount system’s large-diameter mount, which unlocks further possibilities of lens design, as well as the potential for light gathering. In addition to enhanced brightness, the optical formula and larger rear element helps to realize beautiful, well-rounded bokeh throughout the entire frame, even from maximum aperture. The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena also affords users outstanding sharpness and clarity, regardless of the shooting distance with a close minimum focusing distance of only 0.82 m/2.69 ft. This enables a fantastic dreamlike expression that combines delicate textures and beautiful bokeh in portraits, landscapes and more. The lens’ luxurious exterior design is intended to match its superior optical performance. Along with the adoption of metal components, the lens features an engraved "Plena" logo similar to the cursive font and yellow color of the Noct logo. Additional features include a fully weather sealed body for durability and the addition of two L-Fn buttons for customization. Primary Features of the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena Beautiful, well-rounded bokeh is achieved throughout the entire frame, while supporting a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture. Eleven-blade diaphragm and larger rear element contribute to exceptionally circular bokeh for dreamlike expression that accentuates the three-dimensionality of the subject with smooth gradation. The large amount of peripheral light at the f/1.8 maximum aperture ensures a consistently bright image all the way to the extreme corners of the frame for a sense of transparency and brilliance in images. The outstanding sharpness and clarity, characteristic of S-Line lenses, enables rendering of the finest textures in hair and skin tones, while excellent point-light reproduction capabilities achieve brilliant night and urban landscape imagery. A multi-focusing system uses stepping motors (STMs) for fast, accurate and quiet autofocus drive for still images and video. In addition to Meso Amorphous Coat, the most effective anti-reflection coating in Nikon history that prevents reflections regardless of the direction from which light enters the lens, Nikon’s original ARNEO Coat is also used to effectively reduce instances of ghosting and flaring. Optical construction consists of 16 elements in 14 groups, with four ED elements, one aspherical element and one SR lens element. A design that takes video recording into consideration with quiet operation and stable exposure. The lens body features two lens Fn buttons, to which a wide variety of functions can be assigned. One is positioned on the top of the lens enabling smooth adjustment of settings even when shooting in vertical orientation. The versatile 82mm filter attachment size enables the use of various lens filters designed to satisfy users’ creative intent. Designed to achieve superior dust and drip-resistant performance[2]. Well balanced with a dimension of 3.9"x 5.5", and a weight of 2.2 lbs /995 g. 8. Press release: The New Generation of the Powerful and Versatile Wide-Angle Lens Teaneck, October 26, 2023 - Leica Camera AG’s experience and expertise in the development of optical precision tools goes back more than 150 years. Since then, handmade cameras and lenses have been created in the Leica Manufactory – with no less a claim than to rank among the best in the world. Up to the present day, this claim has been the source of the innovative spirit and the passion to rethink the existing without compromise and to keep redefining the limits of what is technically feasible. The same is true for the Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH.: with its further development, the consequently updating M-Lens portfolio offers a state-of-the-art, versatile wide-angle lens. The new powerful high-speed M-Lens presents itself with improved technical features which equip the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. ideally for the latest sensor technology and thus for current as well as future camera generations. At the same time, the combination of the wide-angle with the closest focusing distance extended from 70 to 40 centimeters opens up additional photographic possibilities. Focusing up to 70 centimeters still works via the range finder of all digital and analogue M-Cameras. After a slightly perceptible resistance, the extended close-up range between 70 and 40 centimeters can be precisely focused via Live-View on the screen, the Visoflex 2 viewfinder or with the Leica FOTOS app. Due to the compactness typical of M-Lenses, the new Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. is also characterized by handiness. The lens hood in a modern, round design is directly integrated in the lens, which makes it especially comfortable. It can now be screwed in or unscrewed with only a flick of the wrist at any time. Inside the lens, 9 lenses in 6 groups provide for images that are extremely rich in contrast and detail. The focus ring can be adjusted in a remarkably quiet and smooth way. So, the Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. shows exactly the precision which is distinctive of Leica products and not only bears the quality label “Made in Germany” but also shapes it significantly. The Leica Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. will be available globally at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and Leica authorized dealers starting November 30th, 2023. The US retail price will be $5,295.
