Often used as a cookie, which is anything that partially blocks light, the Venetian blind is a surprisingly versatile light modifier. Photographer Gavin Hoey shows you three ways to use a blind in your studio. Along the way, he demonstrates why the pattern you see isn’t like the shadows you photograph and how to improve your blind photos. Starting out with the classic of using a blind to create a stripy pattern on a background, Gavin then switches it around to create stripes just on his model. Finally, he makes the blind a part of the photo and gets explains his simple but effective way to get super crisp lines.
