  4. Meyer-Optik-Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II is an improved version of the lens from 2016, which is based on the construction developed in the 1930s. Meyer-Optik-Görlitz has announced that the lens will have the character of an original lens, but it will be adjusted to modern requirements. The optical system consists of 5 lenses made of the optical lenses Schott and OHARA, placed in 4 groups. The system enables focusing from the distance of 21.65’’ (55cm). This distance may be reduced to 9.84’’ (25cm) by mounting an additional lens to a filter thread. 1). Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II The lens is also equipped with a 14-blade aperture made of steel, which with the light of 1.9 is supposed to ensure unique background blur. Meyer-Optik-Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II, apart from the versions for Canon EF, Nikon F, Fujifilm X, Leica M and L, M42, MFT, Sony E and Pentax K, will be also offered for medium-format mirrorless systems: Hasselblada and Fujifilm. 2). Meyer Optik Görlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II The lens will be (possibly) available in September 2018 and it will cost $2500. However, if we decide on the support of the producer in Indiegogo, we will be able to buy this lens for a very attractive price - $799. You can find the project’s website here.

  10. Phase One Releases Capture One 11

Phase One Capture One has been considered the best application for RAW files processing on the market for many years, and the latest upgrade to a huge extent changes the way of working in the application and it introduces new tools. The latest Capture One Pro 11 is focused mainly on the work on layers. The one present in the previous editions has been fully replaced by the layers tools, which are now the central point of the program and on which any possible editing can be made. The system of layers (the number of layers is limited to 16) is supported by an improved masked tool, which, thanks to the new blending functions and clarifying the selections, will enable us to thoroughly separate even the most problematic objects, such as hair and trees. The productivity of the program has also been improved and we have an opportunity to use presets, just like in Lightroom. Yet another interesting function is the system of remarks, which can be made directly on a processed photograph in the form of a layer. It’s strange that we had to wait for such a tool for so long. The tool will undoubtedly simplify the works of retouchers. While writing about version 11 of Capture One, it is worth mentioning a very controversial fact connected with it. The latest version of the program does not support, and it is not yet known whether it is going to support, any medium-format cameras of companies other than Phase One. It’s strange since Phase One cameras, due to a huge gap in the prices, are not competitive ones when it comes to the majority of medium-format cameras and no photographer planning to buy Pentax 645Z is going to buy Phase One cameras due to this reason. As for now, the company has not taken any position when it comes to this matter. Capture One Pro 11 is available for download in the version for Mac and Windows. It will cost $299. People who have the previous version of the application can make an update for $119.
  11. Sony a7R III Scores 100 at DxOMark DxOMark just awarded the new Sony a7R III a score of 100, the highest mark ever given to a non-medium format mirrorless camera. The score ties the Nikon D850 DSLR for 1st place among all cameras with a 35mm-sized sensor or smaller.
  12. Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 Announcement

The presented Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH is the second in this century, and the fourth in general, construction which has appeared in the Noctilux series. A fixed lens, about which many portrait photographers have dreamed, is a fully manual lens, which is supposed to fully extend the new possibilities in this type of photography. 1). Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 with Leica M10 The lens is supposed to ensure a significantly more shallow depth of field than Noktilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH, which is a remarkable achievement. Apart from that, we will get a minimum focus distance of 85cm. The lens is equipped with a 11-blade aperture, with the maximum nominal slot of f/1.25, which is going to provide a higher-than-average bokeh effect. 2). Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 The lens has the dimensions of 74x91mm and it weights 1055g so it’s not a compact one. Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH is going to be compatible with the M system, but thanks to a special adapter we will also be able to mount it to the Leica SL lens. 3). Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 with Leica M10 The optical system consists of 9 elements placed in 6 groups, and the whole construction is to be characterized by high resolution and proper correction of all optical defects, which is definitely going to be useful during the work with the lens and new future high-resolution cameras. 4). Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 The price of the new lens is $12800 (unfortunately YES) and it is to appear on sale at the beginning of 2018.
  13. Sony G Series CFast 2.0 Announcement

Today, Sony presented the newest series of CFast 2.0 cards, which have been designed bearing in mind the most demanding photographers and filmmakers. G Series, thanks to the used solutions, is supposed to increase the effectiveness of the most modern and advanced cameras to the maximum level. New Sony cards will enable us to save data with the speed up to 510 MB/s, and read data with the speed be up to 530 MB/s. However, to achieve this result, one will have to used the latest card readers. The new cards are also supported by VPG1303 (Video Performance Guarantee), thanks to which new data carriers are supposed to be perfect for stable recording in 4K. 1). Sony G Series CFast 2.0 Apart from that, the cards are waterproof and protected against the influence of static discharge. In the case of incidental deletion of the photographs, Sony File Rescue will enable us to quickly retrieve the deleted photographs and films. Sony G Series CFast 2.0 cards are to appear on sale in the first quarter of the next year – at first, only on the Asian market. The cards will be available in 3 versions: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB and will retail at $120, $200, and $350 respectively.
  14. Leica CL Announcement

Despite the fact that the latest Leika CL had its premiere more than a week ago, it’s definitely worth mentioning. This camera proves that the German producer of photographic equipment is still treating the sector of APS-C cameras very seriously. Leica CL is, above all, very ergonomic, which makes the camera very convenient. The camera is equipped with the 24-Mp CMOS sensor, supported by the latest image processor Maestro II, which should enable us to take photographs within the ISO range of 100 – 50000, with the speed up to 10 f/s. Apart from that, the camera is equipped with a shutter, which should enable work with the speed of up to 1/8000 s or 1/25000 s in the electronic mode, and the 49-point phase-detection autofocus. 1). Leica CL We also have a built-in electronic viewfinder with the resolution of 2.36Mp, and two control knobs on the upper panel, which will enable us to quickly control the parameters of the aperture, shutter time, ISO sensitivity and control exposure compensation. The knobs are the pressing ones, enabling us to control two parameters at the same time. A very convenient function is a miniature supporting LCD screen, on which we can quickly see currently used settings. 2). Leica CL The battery will enable us to take 220 photographs on a single charge, which is not the best result. The whole body is made of aluminum and magnesium alloys. The lenses from the TL system as well as the lenses from the M and R systems (through a dedicated adapter) can be connected to the camera. 3). Leica CL As could be expected, the camera is not going to be cheap. It’s going to cost $4000. Leica CL is to appear on the market this month.

  17. Leica Elmarit-TL 18mm f/2.8 APSH Announcement

Today, Leica presented a new wide-angle lens with the equivalent of 27mm, developing a bit a humble, as for now, Leica TL system. Leica Elmarit-TL 18 mm f/2.8 APSH, as this is the full name of the new lens, is going to be the widest lens of the system. The lens will also be very compact – it has the dimensions of 21x62mm and it weighs 80g so it’s going to be a great companion in reportage photography. 1). Leica Elmarit-TL 18mm f/2.8 APSH and Leica CL The optical system of the new lens has been built on the basis of 8 lenses placed in 6 groups, among which we have 4 aspheric lenses, which are to guarantee good resolution, both in the centre and on the edges of the frame. The lens will enable focus adjustment from the distance of 30cm from the photographed object. Electronic aperture can be closed up to f/16. 2). Leica TL Lens Family The lens is going to be available on the market at the end of November and it’s going to cost $1300.

  20. 2018 Pirelli Calendar

Every year for the last 54 years (though, publication was paused for 10 years in 1974 due to the recession), Pirelli has issued a calendar, which was at first supposed to be a marketing tool. By showing mainly naked models, it was supposed to encourage the customers to buy the company’s products. With time, since it was exclusively targeted at a handful of clients, it became a pop culture phenomenon. Many notable people from the fashion, entertainment and photography world have been invited for the next sessions. The photography world awaits a new edition every year. This year, Tim Walker, known from rich and colorful stylizations as well as portrait photography, was chosen as a photographer. This year’s edition has been inspired by the novel "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" and it’s special mainly due to the fact that the photographed models are black artists and celebrities. The following people, among others, have been photographed: Lupita Nyong’o, Puff Daddy, Whoopie Goldberg, Naomi Campbell and RuPaul. Despite the fact that the photographs perfectly present the atmosphere of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the shift from the subject matter which for many years have been the main theme of the calendar may not be liked by everyone. Below you can find a few photographs from the new edition of the 2018 calendar. 1). The Royal Duchess and Princess of Hearts - Whoopi Goldberg and Thando Hopa © Tim Walker 2). 26. Yesterday, quite unexpectedly, Panasonic presented a new model of the professional G9 camera. 27. Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 Power O.I.S shows perfectly the greatest advantage of using the Micro Four Thirds system, offering the equivalent of 400mm for full frame and the light of f/2.8. Its dimensions are merely 174x87mm and it weighs 1245g. In comparison, Nikon 400mm f/2.8 weighs 134oz. (3.8kg) and it has the dimensions of 6.3in. (159.5mm)x14.09in. (358mm). These figures speak for themselves… The optical system of the new Leica consists of 15 elements placed in 13 groups, among which we have two low-dispersion lenses, which are to perfectly deal with chromatic aberration. But the most impressive property is the minimum focus distance which is only 1.15m. This will make it possible to use the lens in taking photographs which would be impossible to take with the use of ordinary 400’s. The 9-blade aperture can be closed up to f/22. 1). Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 Power O.I.S Apart from that, the new lens is equipped with the POWER O.I.S optical stabilization system and sealings, which should protect the lens from dust and splashes. We also shouldn’t forget about the 1.4x teleconverter added to the set, which is supposed to change the lens into a telephoto lens with the equivalent of 560mm. Filters with the diameter of 77mm can be used on the front lens. 2). Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 Power O.I.S The lens will cost $2999. It is to appear on sale in January 2018.
