    LG V40 ThinQ Announcement

The arms race when it comes to a number of lenses in-built in smartphones has fully unleashed. If you think that 3 lenses at the back of LG V40 ThinQ, which was described today, is a lot, please wait for Samsung A9 – it has four of them! LG V40 ThinQ, besides three lenses placed at the back of the smartphone, is equipped with two front lenses for selfies. The back lenses are in short: 12MP (1.4μm) with the f/1.5 lens and the equivalent of 27mm. 16MP wide-angle module with the equivalent of 16mm and the brightness of f/1.9. 12MP telelens with the light of f/2.4 and the equivalent of 52mm. Taking into account the parameters of the lenses, it seems that we can expect very good results during taking photographs at light deficit. One of the curiosities should be the CineShot mode thanks to which we will be able to record the so-called moving photographs – images on which some of the elements of a static shot move. 1). LG V40 ThinQ Fast AF in the new LG is based on phase-detection pixels. "Artificial intelligence” is also present in the smartphone – at our request, it will crop a photograph for us and propose optimal parameters during photographing a given scene. The first of the two cameras placed at the front of the phone has the resolution of 8MP and the light of f/1.9, the second one has the resolution of 5MP and it is a wide-angle f/2.2 module. By combining their strengths, the cameras take photographs, for instance, with the effect of background blurring and there is also a possibility of controlling its intensity. 2). LG V40 ThinQ LG V40 ThinQ means, of course, not only an impressive number of lenses – the subsystems on the basis of which the smartphone was created are also remarkable. The heart of the device is the 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the graphic side is controlled by the Adreno 630 system and the whole construction is supported by 6GB of RAM. The OLED screen has the resolution of 1440 × 31120px (QHD) and the diagonal of 6,4", ppi is 527 and the whole thing has been covered with Gorilla Glass of the fifth generation. The smartphone will be available in the versions with 64 or 128GB of in-built memory. On the housing, we will find a microSD card slot. There is also the Jack 3,5mm headphone connector - the in-build battery has the capacity of 3399mAh. The date of the premiere and the price of LG V40 ThinQ are not known yet.

    Zeiss ZX1 - Ascetic Full-Frame Camera

During this year's Photokina trade fair, the legendary Zeiss presented a full-frame compact ZX1, in this way confirming the rumors about entering the scope of camera producers that we'd been hearing for a long time. Zeiss ZX1 is a compact camera enclosed in a very modern and maximally simplified housing. The only two "sticking-out” elements are the shutter speed knob and the ISO sensitivity knob. The camera is equipped with the 37.4MP sensor and the Distagon 35mm f/2 lens, whose optical lenses have been covered with antireflective T coatings. The camera will take photographs with the speed of 3f/s and, as the producer assures, these photographs should be of perfect quality. The camera's viewfinder has been made in the OLED technology – it has Full HD resolution and 0.74× zoom. 1). Zeiss ZX1 Zeiss ZX1 has a chance to become a revolutionary device in terms of operating the camera as well as its mobility and connection with a widely-understood media world. Nearly all operations can be performed on a big 4.3'' LCD screen which is to work without any delays. The camera will connect with the Internet and send photographs to the chosen platforms without involving other devices. As for now, we don't know on what basis the connectivity with the Internet will work. 2). Zeiss ZX1 The camera is to offer 512GB of in-built memory in which we will store up to 7 thousand RAW files or even 50 thousand JPEG ones. A true revolution and a proof of the extraordinary efficiency of the camera's hardware should be the implementation of Adobe Lightroom CC, thanks to which we will be able to perform the advanced processing of our photographs without a need to transfer them onto a computer. ZX1 enables Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth – it is equipped with the USB-C connector. As for now, we don't know the price of Zeiss ZX1 and its availability date (unofficial news say that it should take place in the first months of 2019). The price, irrespective of the currency, will be counted in the numbers of suitcased packed with banknotes.

    Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Announcement

Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1, as the very name suggests, has the focal length of 150mm and the 1:1 mapping scale, thanks to which it is to ensure very convenient work during macro photography. Due to the longer focal length, we will be able to avoid covering the light falling on photographed objects and scaring them away. The optical system of the lens is based on twelve lenses placed in nine groups – there are three low-dispersion elements and four made of high-refraction glass. The producer assures that the distortion should be reduced to the level of 0,01%. The lens is equipped with the internal focusing system thanks to which the whole construction does not change its size during focusing. The lens’ aperture consists of eleven blades and it can be closed up to the value of f/32. The characteristic traits of the device should be nice background blurring and the diffraction which should happen later than in other lenses of such a type. Sharp photographs can be taken already from the distance of 34.5cm. 1). Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 The lens has the "Dragonfly" finishing, which means that it is a combination of advantages of "Firefly" and "Blackstone" lenses – the frame has been made of aluminum and the housing – of aluminum and magnesium alloys with composite elements. The whole construction has been sealed with particular focus put on the most sensitive places (front lens, focus lock ring, focus ring and bayonet). The lens is relatively light and small, its dimensions are 87 × 135mm and its weight - 840g. We will be able to mount filters with the diameter of 77mm on its front. 2). Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 The ring with the rotation scale of 270 degrees is to ensure high precision and culture of work. There is also a possibility of blocking the focus ring. The lens’ processor enables the control of the aperture from the level of the camera and the AE mode makes it possible to use semi-automatic modes (PASM). Thanks to this, the information on confirming focus from the level of the camera will be saved in the EXIF data. 3). Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 If we buy the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 lens, we will receive it in a stiff case in which we will also find a deep sunshield and the tripod grip in the Arca Swiss standard. The lens will be available with the Canon EF, Nikon F and Pentax K mounts. We don’t know yet when the lens is going to appear on sale. Its price is also unknown.
  13. Hasselblad has presented three new lenses for medium-format cameras: XCD 80mm f/1.9, 65mm f/2.8 and 135mm f/2.8. XCD 80mm f/1.9 is the brightest lens in the company's history which should appear in the center of attention of portrait photographers. The lens offers the equivalent of 63mm and the focus depth comparable to full-frame f/1.5 lenses. The optical system of the lens is based on fourteen elements placed in nine groups. Sharp photographs can be taken from the minimum distance of 70cm. The lens' aperture can be closed up to the value of f/32. The aperture fulfills the function of the central shutter offering flash synchronization with the times up to 1/2000s. 1). Hasselblad XCD 80mm f/1.9 The lens has the dimensions of 112 x 84mm and it weighs 1045g. The filters with the diameter of 77mm can be mounted on the front lens. XCD 65mm f/2.8 is a universal lens with the equivalent of 50mm. The optical system is based on ten lenses placed in six groups. The aperture can be closed up to the value of f/32 and sharp photographs can be taken from the minimum distance of 50cm. 2). The lenses will be available on sale in December 2018. The prices are as follows: XCD 80mm f/1.9 - €4,788 XCD 65mm f/2.8 - €2,748 XCD 135mm f/2.8 - €4,068
  14. Last year we described the predecessor of SQ20 - S10. People who thought that the idea of a square reflex camera which prints small photographs was a failure (to put it mildly) will have to deal with the fact that they were wrong (to put it mildly). Of course, the idea of instant cameras is not new and we are all aware of the existence of such constructions. But here we have to do with a significant development of this idea. The photographs taken with the use of SQ20 are saved in the memory (in-built memory for 50 photographs + reading microSD cards), where the selected photographs can undergo processing similar to the one known from Instagram and then we can decide whether we want to print the photographs or not. On the memory card we can also save JPEG photographs taken with the use of other cameras and print them with the use of SQ20, but the producer does not guarantee success in this matter. 1). Instax Square SQ20 What makes SQ20 different than its predecessor are the new photography and image processing modes. At our disposal we have, for instance, the "Motion Mode" function which enables recording short videos (15s) and then selecting the frame which we want to further process or print, thanks to the knob placed at the back wall. Another interesting option is the "Time lag" which enables the creation of collage out of the series of four photographs taken subsequently with the chosen time lag. The option "Sequence" has not been clearly described yet but it will probably give a possibility of intermingling several photographs and adding specially-designed effects. The camera is equipped with a mirror for selfies, known from old mobile cameras. We will also have digital zoom and a possibility of taking photographs with the extended exposure time. The camera’s sensor has the size of 1/5" (S10’s sensor was 1/4"), the maximum resolution of photographs is 1920 x 1920px and we can print them in the resolution of 800 x 600. The ISO range is from 100 to 1600. 2). Instax Square SQ20 The camera’s lens is the equivalent of 33.4mm and the light of f/2.4. It enables taking sharp photographs already from the distance of 10cm. We also shouldn’t forget about the flash whose range is 2m. The camera has the dimensions of 119 x 127 x 50mm and it weighs 440g with the Instax Square insert. A fully-charged battery enables taking and printing up to 100 photographs. The battery can be charged with the use of the USB port – it will take from 3 to 4 hours. 3). Instax Square SQ20 The camera will be available in three color versions and it should appear on sale on October 20, 2018. Its price is not known yet.

    Ricoh GR III Announcement

Contrary to Ricoh GR II, the third version of the compact Ricoh includes many novelties. The camera will have the 24MP APS sensor equipped with phase-detection pixels, thanks to which we will be able to adjust sharpness faster and more effectively than in the case of the previous models. The sensor is equipped with the 3-axis stabilization system and the whole construction is led by the latest-generation image processor. Sharp photographs can be taken already from 6cm and the camera enables the simulation of the low-pass filter. The lens of GR III is the equivalent of 28mm with the light of f/2.8 and it consists of six elements placed in four groups, including two aspherical elements. The lens has the in-built ND filter, which reduces exposition by 2EV. 1). Ricoh GR III We don't know the full specification of Ricoh GR III yet but the information that we've received can be supplemented with the following properties of the new camera: a touch LCD screen with the resolution of 1.03MP, recording videos in Full HD with the speed of 60f/s., USB-C, Wi-Fi and 2Gb of in-built memory. What's interesting, we don't see a flash in the photographs. The camera's price is not known yet but the producer has announced the market premiere for "the beginning of 2019".

FujiFilm GFX 100 - 102MP with Image Stabilization

The compact FujiFilm GFX 50R, which has recently been described by us, was only a starter before a main dish, which is GFX 100. The presented camera is a medium-format one whose heart is a 102MP (43,8 x 32,9mm) sensor with full frame coverage with phase-detection pixels. Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM Definitely having in mind people who record films with the use of mirrorless Sony cameras, the modes of the lens ring work. The ring responsible for aperture control can work in the continuous mode and the focus ring directly translates to the movement of lenses. Inside the lens, we will find the ultrasonic Direct Drive SSM motor, which, as the producer assures, is now 3x faster than the older constructions and it ensures quiet work. 2). Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM Autofocus Motor The lens will appear on sale this month and it will cost $1400.

    Fujifilm GFX 50R Announcement

Fujifilm GFX 50R is a compact version of GFX 50S and is the cheapest medium-format mirrorless FujiFilm camera, which was presented two years ago. Thanks to a smaller size, traveling with it should become less troublesome. It is also significantly cheaper than its older brother. When it comes to the specification of both cameras, at first glance we will not find any differences. Both cameras are equipped with the 51.4MP and have the dimensions of 43.8 x 32.9mm. The heart of both devices is X Processor Pro. We can take photographs with the maximum speed of 3f/s, within the ISO range of 100 - 12800 (extendable to ISO 102400). The cameras record videos in Full HD with the speed of 30f/s and they are equipped with the 114-point autofocus. 1). Fujifilm GFX 50R The differences between the two FujiFilm cameras concern their constructions and sizes. GFX 50R is significantly smaller, its dimensions are 161 x 97 x 66mm and it weighs 775g. A smaller construction led to a change in the camera's ergonomics - on the upper panel, there are only dedicated shutter speed and exposure control knobs. At the back, we will not find a 4-direction selector - it has been replaced with gesture handling on the touch screen. There are also four function buttons, two knobs and the AF joystick. 2). Fujifilm GFX 50R The camera is equipped with an electronic viewfinder made in OLED technology, which offers the resolution of 3.69MP at 0.77x zoom. A rotated LCD 3.2" touch screen has the resolution of 2.33MP. We also have two SD card slots in the UHS-II standard and thanks to Bluetooth, our camera will be able to remain in constant connectivity with other devices, ensuring, for instance, the transfer of taken photographs. A fully-charged battery enables taking 400 photographs, the camera is sealed and compatible with Capture One software. 3). Fujifilm GFX 50R As we've already mentioned at the beginning of the article, FujiFilm GFX 50R is the cheapest medium-format mirrorless camera on the market. It will appear on sale next month and it will cost $4499.

Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R Announcement

After the loud premiere of full-frame mirrorless Canon and Nikon, Panasonic becomes their competitor by presenting two Lumix models: S1 and S1R. Will Panasonic surprisingly become the author of the most interesting premiere of the year? Let's find out. S1R is equipped with the 47MP sensor and S1 - with the 24MP sensor. Both cameras enable the recording of videos in 4K with the speed of 60f/s. The lenses with the L mounts, which, as the producer informed, becomes an open standard supported and developed by Panasonic, Leica and Sigma, can be mounted on the cameras. 1). Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R There are many black holes in the specification of cameras announced by Panasonic, but we know that with regard to S1R and S1 we can expect the Micro Four Third system, a quick AF based on DFD technology (supported by AI), sensor stabilization, 3" touch LCD screen rotated in many directions and exceptional time of synchronization of the flash and the lamp. The cameras will also be equipped with the highest-quality electronic viewfinder, auxiliary LCD screens and two memory card slots - one in SD format and one in XQD. The cameras' bodies are protected against splashes and dust. 2). Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R We can talk about the ergonomics of the Panasonic cameras only based on the slides presented during the conference. Function buttons placed near the mounts, dedicated buttons as well as the mode knob combined with the PASM knob placed on the upper wall show the expanded ergonomics of the camera. The back of the camera has not been shown. 3). Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R New lenses were presented with new cameras. Three of them: 50mm f/1.4, 24-105mm and 70-200mm should satisfy basic needs of photographers. As for now, there are 8 compatible constructions to choose from in Leica's offer and Sigma lenses are to see the light of day soon. Panasonic lenses are to be available until 2020. The premiere of new Panasonic cameras is announced for the beginning of 2019. Then we will get to know the prices of S1R and S1.

Apple iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr Announcement

Traditionally in September, the Apple conference, during which three new iPhone smartphones: Xs, Xs Max and Xr were presented, took place. The producer has announced a real revolution in smartphone photography. Let's see how true that is. One thing should be said directly - there is no equipment revolution in photography and new iPhones do not significantly differ in this matter compared to their predecessors. iPhone Xs and Xs Max are equipped with a pair of 12MP cameras with 28mm and 56mm lenses with the brightness of f/1.8 and f/2.4. The cameras have optical stabilization. The Xr model has only one camera with the resolution of 12MP, with the f/1.8 lens. The sensor of the camera is of 1/2.6" size and an individual pixel's size of 1,4μm. Such a construction should bring an opportunity of taking much better photos in low light. In the cases of a lack of light, we have an improved flash at our disposal. 1). iPhone Xs Max Camera The main novelty concerning taking photographs with the use of new iPhones seems to be the Smart HDR mode in which the camera takes eight photographs and then creates one balanced frame. Another improvement is the "portrait mode" in which background blurring has been significantly improved in comparison to older iPhones. The level of background blurring can be regulated after taking a photograph. On the front of the smartphones, we will find a well-known set of detectors thanks to which we can unlock our smartphone by showing our face. The "selfie" camera has the resolution of 7MP and the lens' brightness is f2/2. The background blurring effective can be achieved also with the use of the photographs taken by the front camera. Video registered with the use of the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max is maximally of 4K resolution and can be recorded with the speed of 60f/s. - so there's no breakthrough here. Still, the producer has announced that thanks to better image processing the recorded films are to be characterized by better colors and a wider dynamic range - unfortunately, we can achieve this only by recording videos with the speed lower than 30f/s. Full HD films can be registered with the speed of 240f/s. Four microphones in the device are responsible for good sound quality. 2). iPhone Xs All three presented smartphones are "framelds" constructions. In Xs and Xs Max models, OLED screens with the dimensions of, respectively: 5,8" (2436 x 1125 px) and 6,5" (2688 x 1242px) are used. Pixel density is 458ppi, contrast - 1.000.000:1 and brightness - 625cd/m2. The screens support HDR technology. The screen of iPhone Xr is a bit poorer since it is a classic 6,1" IPS LCD with the resolution of 1792 x 828px, which results in the pixel density of 326ppi. The latest equipment novelty is a new A12 Bionic processor, based on neuron networks. The main processor has six cores. Four cores have a graphic arrangement od smartphones, thanks to which the general speed of work is to increase by 50% and the applications are to load 30% raster. All of this is achieved with the electricity demand decreased by 50%. New iPhones are more sealed (IP68 class) and they can be immersed by 2 meters for 30 minutes. The phones support handling two SIM cards (nano SIM and sSIM) and their speakers have also been improved. Demand for energy has decreased, thanks to which iPhone Xs is supposed to work 30 minutes later and iPhone Xs Max - 90 minutes longer than iPhone X. New Apple smartphones are already available and their prices are as follows: Apple iPhone Xr - $748. Apple iPhone Xs - $999. Apple iPhone Xs Max - $1099
