  1. We've known for a few months that Nikon has been working on the eye AF function, but a few days ago this function became widely available thanks to the firmware update to 2.0. The function works both in the case of AF-S measurement and AF-C measurement. In the case of detecting eyes of many people, one can use the multi-function selector or additional selector and choose the eye on which the focus should be adjusted. What's more, Nikon has increased the sensitivity of the whole AF system to the value of -2 EV in Z 7, and to the value of -3,5 EV in Z 6. Another novelty is individual exposition measurement for full frame, conducted in a quick continuous shooting series. Online materials which are available up to this point present very positive opinions about eye AF in the AF-S mode. Unfortunately, this function works much worse in the case of the autofocus in the AF-C mode. Still, Nikon deserves recognition since it managed to implement this function to the first series of mirrorless cameras (it seems, a bit under the pressure of users) although it wasn't its plan during the premieres of Z 6 and Z 7. You can download firmware v2.0 for the Z6 and Z7, head on over to the Nikon Download Center.
  2. The latest Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM lens will be a perfect reason to choose mirrorless cameras of this producer for many professionals. It seems the lens, announced not so long ago, will be a great choice. The optical system is based on 13 lenses placed in 9 groups, in which we will find both apsherical lenses, and the UD element, which is to guarantee perfect resolution within the whole frame. The producer boasts that it is the lens of the highest resolution within the RF series. The Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics technology, which is supposed to limit chromatic aberration almost to zero, has been applied in the lens. We also have ASC coatings (AIr Sphere Coating), which limit light leaks and flares. 1). Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM The 9-blade aperture can be closed up to f/16. The minimum focus distance is 85mm. The autofocus is an almost silent USM motor which, in connection with the Dual Pixel AF system and eye detection, is to ensure perfect performance. 2). Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM has been fully sealed and it offers the function ring to which we can assign specific camera functions, similarly to other RF constructions. The lens enables mounting 82mm filters, it has the dimensions of 117 × 103mm and it weighs 1195g. The lens will appear on the market in June and it will cost $2,699.

  11. Sony has announced two new external mobile SSD discs, which are supposed to meet high requirements concerning resistance to damage. The discs will be sold in two versions. The cheaper compact version will be marked as SL-C and a bit bigger, more effective version will be marked as SL-M. The discs will be resistant to the compression forces up to 6 tons and bending forces up to 2 tons. What’s more, the disc is resistant to falls from 3 meters and it is also waterproof. The devices will be made of aluminum and sold with a set of stickers (which will enable their identification) as well as anti-slip rubber strips. SL-M will enable transfers at the level of 1000MB/s, whereas the SL-C series is to offer the speed of read-write speed at the level of 520-540 MB/s. As one could easily notice, the differences in the speed are almost twofold. 1). Sony SL-M with Accessories The discs will also have hardware encryption of data with the use of the 256-bit AES key, password protection and the Lifetime Checker tool, which will enable checking the state of the data carrier. In addition, the SSD Utility application will make it possible to install the updates which will introduce potential corrections and will improve the work of the disc. The discs will appear on sale in autumn 2019 in the versions with the capacities of 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The price is not known yet but one may expect that these will not be cheap devices.
  12. Lumix G95 (also known as the G90 and G91 outside North America) is a successor of G85, which has become a synonym of a camera which combines compact size, advanced photography and film-making functions and affordable price. G95 is continuing this tradition and it additionally offers a more advanced ergonomics as well as advanced video functions, thanks to which it may become a very popular model among the film-making beginners. Panasonic Lumix G95 is equipped with the 20MP Live MOS sensor with the 5-axis stabilization system, which enables work within the ISO range of 200-25600. The camera makes it possible to take photographs with the maximum speed of 9f/s. 1). Panasonic Lumix G95 + Lumix G Vario 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 Power I.O.S. When it comes to the autofocus, the camera is equipped with the 49-point AF system based on phase-detection technology, Depth From Defocus, known from other models. The autofocus is supported by new algorithms which have also been used in latest S1 and S1R models and which are to improve work in low light, by offering the effectiveness of up to -4 EV. We also have the eye and face detection systems. 2). Panasonic Lumix G95 + Lumix G Vario 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 Power I.O.S. The camera offers above-average (for this segment) video functions. Although the general specification of the film mode basically remains unchanged (maximum resolution of 4K 30f/s, 100Mb/s, crop 1,25×), it is worth noting the default flat V-Log profile function, which should enable obtaining the dynamic range of up to 12 EV. In this case, it will be the 8-bit 4:2:0 save, but during work with an external recorder, we may achieve the 4:2:2 sampling. In addition, we will also get a possibility of recording Full HD films with the speed of up to 120f/s, thanks to which we may obtain attractive materials in slow motion. Typically, we will also have additional photography functions based on the film mode, such as 4K Photo, Post Focus or Focus Stacking. 3). Panasonic Lumix G95 + Lumix G Vario 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 Power I.O.S. Lumix G95 is a bit bigger and heavier than G85 and it weighs 536g. The camera's body is partially made of magnesium alloys and it is sealed. The camera is equipped with the 3'' rotating touch screen (1,240,000 points) and physical ISO, white balance and exposition compensation buttons, similarly to S1 and S1R models, which should enable faster and more convenient work. Besides that, it should also increase the number of available programmable buttons. When it comes to the viewfinder, it is still the same system with the resolution of 2,36MP. A battery grip, which will hold two additional batteries, can also be attached to the camera. 4). Panasonic Lumix G95 + Lumix G Vario 12-60 f/3.5-5.6 Power I.O.S. 15. Profoto Connect is a trigger which has been designed having in mind the photographers who have just started their work with flash and who value minimalism. Profoto Connect does not have any buttons - only a rotating body which makes it possible to set the trigger in two positions: Auto and Manual. In the Auto mode, as you might guess, the trigger will set all of the parameters of the manual flash, based on the TTL measurement, and the selected exposition parameters. In the Manual mode, the parameters can be set manually with the use of a mobile application which is, unfortunately, only available for the iOS system as for now. According to the producer's specification, the device will serve 8 channels and offer the range up to 300m. The in-built rechargeable battery is supposed to enable 30 hours of continuous work.
  16. The offer of Tamron’s lenses is continuously expanding. The producer takes into account the customers’ expectations and it will introduce 3 new lenses on the market: 35-150mm f/2.8-4, 35mm f/1.4 and 17-28mm f/2.8 III in the coming months. The offer will be targeted at both the users of reflex and mirrorless cameras. 18. The series of compact Panasonic Lumix TZ cameras will be enriched by a new model – TZ95. The 1/2,3" MOS sensor of a new Panasonic has the resolution of 2,3MP. The Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens has image stabilization and it has the equivalent of 24 - 70mm focal length (for full frame). The lens has also been equipped with the well-known DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology, which is responsible for the speed and focus precision. The speed of AF work is to be one of the main advantages of TZ95 – the camera is to set focus with the speed of 0,1s. In the continuous shooting mode, the speed is 10f/s (AFS) or 5f/s (AFC). The camera is equipped with a buffer which enables saving 26 RAW photographs. 1). Panasonic Lumix TZ Nowadays, no renowned producer of cameras can disregard the needs of film-making lovers. Panasonic TZ95 records videos in 4K (3840×2160) with the speed of 30p/25p (50Hz) and in MP4 with the speed of 24p. Full HD (1920×1080) can be saved in the AVCHD Progressive format or in MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264), making use of the continuous AF. 19. Skylum Software is not giving up a fight for a leading position with regard to photo editing softwares. The latest Luminar update means, above all, greater effectiveness, speed of work and compatibility with new camera models. A few months ago, Luminar had a great update, whose new component was Digital Asset Manager (DMA) - namely a long-awaited advanced system of photo cataloging. The program's interface was also improved. In addition, the synchronization of photo settings and the functions such as Luminar Looks, Accent AI and AI Sky Enhancer were added. After the update to the 3.0.2 version, Luminar has achieved greater stability and speed. The program runs faster and the files can also be faster copied from and into the catalogs. The new Locate Folder function enables quick finding of photographs saved on a computer. The keyboard shortcuts and a possibility of automatic backup (for Mac OS X) have also been added. In the 3.0.2 update, we will find new additional buttons (gallery and a single image view) on a toolbar. There is also support for new cameras: Nikon P1000, Nikon D3500, Nikon Z 6, Nikon Z 7, Fujifilm GFX 50R, Fujifilm X-T3, Sony HX99, Sony HX95, Sony RX100, Sony RX100 VI, Panasonic Lumix LX100 II, Leica M10-D, M10-P, D-Lux 7 and Hasselblad H6D-100c. We can buy Luminar 3 for $69. For this price, we can install a program on maximally 5 devices.
  20. The series of Leica Q cameras is known for its attractiveness and timeless design. The latest generation uses these advantages, but takes them to a higher level and offers new functions. The camera will perfectly fulfil its role in street, landscape, photojournalism and architecture photography. The camera has a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens, which is in-built in the body. The lens consists of 11 elements placed in 9 groups, among which there are 3 aspherical lenses. If this focal length limits us in any way, the camera is also equipped with the digital 1.2× – 35mm, 1.5× 50mm and 2× 75mm zoom. But if we use it, the image will be simply cropped and its resolution will decrease. 1). Leica Q2 Leica Q2 has a full-frame sensor with huge 47MP resolution. The first generation of the compact camera used “merely” 24MP sensor. The sensor is supported by a well-known Maestro II processor, which enables using the ISO range of 50-50000 and taking photographs (in JPEG and DNG) with the speed of 10f/s. The autofocus is a well-known phase-detection system with 49 AF points. The mechanical shutter has the time range of 60-1/2000s and the electronic one – 60-1/40,000s. 2). Leica Q2 The camera is equipped with the film-making functions and registers materials in 4K (30/24p) and Full HD (120/60/30/24p). The screen is a non-rotating 3’’ touch LCD one with the resolution of 1,040,000 points. 3). Leica Q2 The new Leica Q2 also has wireless functions, namely Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with the possibility of convenient operation of the Fotos mobile application. We should also not complain about the battery capacity. A fully-charged BP-SCL4 rechargeable battery should enable taking 370 photographs. Leica Q2 is already available on sale. As could be expected from Leica, the price is $4,999.
  21. Meike has presented a new MK 85mm f/1.8 MF lens with the Sony E mount, which may satisfy the photographers with a very limited budget. The optical system is based on 9 lenses placed in 6 groups, with the 9-blade aperture. The minimum focus distance is 85mm and the lens is manual. 1). Meike MK 85mm f/1.8 MF The filters with the diameter of 67mm can be mounted on the front lens and the camera's body has been made of plastic. MK 85mm f/1.8 MF is not sealed. As for now, the price of the lens is not known yet, but taking into account the fact that the reflex version with the AF motor costs almost $200, we can expect that the cost of the manual version will be much lower.
  22. Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR complements the family of compact fixed FujiFilm lenses, which consists of: XF 23mm f/2 R WR, XF 35mm f/2 R WR and XF 50mm f/2 R WR. The tube of the lens has been made of metal and sealed in nine places, which makes it resistant to dust and splashes. Using the lens in low temperatures (up to -10°C) should also not cause any problems. The lens has the dimensions of 60 × 45.4mm and it weighs 155g. We will be able to mount the filters with the diameter of 49mm on its front. The optical system of the lens is based on 10 elements placed in 8 groups, among which 2 are aspherical constructions. The aperture consists of 9 blades and the nominal hole of f/2,8, which can be closed up to the value of f/22. The focal length has the equivalent of 24mm and ensures 83.2° angle of view. 1). FujiFilm Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR With the use of the new FujiFilm lens, we will take photographs from the distance of 17cm. The speed and precision of AF is controlled by the system of internal focusing powered by a stepper motor. FujiFilm Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR will appear on sale this month and it will cost $400.
  23. SD Association has presented a new format of the SD and microSD cards which is supposed to ensure 10× greater transfer speed than the best cards which are currently on the market. New SD Express cards are to offer the data read speed at the level of 985 MB/s. The NVMe 1.3 and PCIe 3.1 interfaces will make the cards need much less energy despite their much greater speed. The second great news is the information that Sony and, among others, ProGrade will introduce on sales the CFexpress cards, which have been expected for almost 3 years. The new medium is to be represented in the Tough series, characterized by big resistance to adverse external conditions such as temperature, X-rays, falls and crushing. Additionally, the card buyers may download for free the Media Scan Utility and File Rescue applications, which will inform about the card status, including the level of exploitation of flash memory. They will also enable the recovery of the data lost from the card. The Sony CFexpress cards are to appear on the market at the beginning of summer 2019, in the versions with the capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB. Their prices are not known yet. In addition, the CFexpress MRW-G1 card reader, which is also compatible with the XQD cards, will appear on sale too.
  24. In 2017, shortly after the premiere of the mirrorless X-T2 camera, its compact X-T20 version was presented. This step must have been effective since FujiFilm has decided to repeat it while introducing the latest mirrorless models, X-T3 and X-T30, on the market. FujiFilm XT-30 described today is nothing else than a minimized X-T3. It is equipped with the fourth generation X-Trans CMOS APS-C sensor with the BSI structure and the resolution of 26MP. The sensor does not have a low-pass filter. The native range of ISO is 160 – 12800 and it can be extended to ISO 80, 100, 125, 25600 and 51200. The electronic system of the camera is controlled by the latest version of the 4-core image processor, X-Processor 4, which is characterized by greater effectiveness and speed of work than its predecessor. 1). Fujifilm X-T30 + Fujinon 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS With the use of the mechanical shutter, FujiFilm X-T30 is able to record materials with the maximum speed of 8f/s. With the use of the electronic shutter and continuous AF, the speed is 30f/s and with the use of 1.25× crop – 30f/s. The films recorded with the use of X-T30 can have the maximum resolution of 4K and can be recorded with the speed of 30 f/s (8-bit 4:2:0, saved on the SD card). In Full HD, the speed increases to 120f/s. We will be able to save films in F-log in the 10-bit 4:2:2 format through the HDMI port. During filming we will have access to FujiFilm plates simulation. The camera also offers the possibility of recording videos in the DCI - 17:9 cinema format. 2). Fujifilm X-T30 + Fujinon 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS A very quick AF is based on 2.6 million of phase detection pixels with which the X-Trans sensor is equipped. It is 4 times more than in the previous generation of mirrorless FujiFilm cameras. Phase detection pixels cover around 100% of the frame, which is to ensure instant focusing also on the objects beyond the center of the frame. There are 425 AF points. The autofocus of X-T30 is to be distinguished by quick and precise work, also in hard lighting conditions (even up to -3 EV). The AF algorithm has been improved – thanks to this, the work of autofocus tracking also got better. Face and eye detection have also been developed. A new "Face Select" function will make it possible to specify which object of the frame is to be a priority when it comes to maintaining focus. The AF has been equipped with eye detection in the AF-C mode and it enables more detailed tracking of the moving face. The advantages of the improved AF are also available during filming. 3). Fujifilm X-T30 FujiFilm made efforts not to make the existing users of X-T20 lost while working with the new camera for the first time. Despite the fact that the functionality and the placement of buttons of both cameras are very similar, X-T30 also offers some new things in this regard. Near the screen there is a joystick which changes the placement of AF but there are no function buttons, which is a bit controversial. A touch LCD screen, which can be rotated in two directions, has 3’’ diagonal and the resolution of 1.04MP. Through the touch screen, we will make all the settings and we will be able to intuitively navigate through the files. We also have virtual buttons at our disposal. The screen of the new camera is now 1.3mm thinner and it better responds to touch. The electronic viewfinder has the resolution of 2.36MP and the zoom of 0.62×. The camera has the dimensions of 118 × 83 × 47mm and it weighs 383g. It is equipped with 1 SD card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity as well as USB-C connection. A fully-charged battery should enable us to take 380 photographs. The Fujifilm Camera Remote application will be useful in connecting with mobile devices. The application has been enriched by a new interface and the ‘Album’ function in the latest version. 4). Fujifilm X-T30 + Fujinon 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Fujifilm X-T30 will appear on sale in March. We will have 2 colors to choose from: black and silver. The third color version is to be available in May. The very body will cost $900. The price will increase to $1000 in a set with the XC 15-45 mm f3.5-5.6 OIS Power Zoom lens, and to $1,300 in a set with 18-55 mm f/2.8-4 lens.
