Sony has announced two new external mobile SSD discs, which are supposed to meet high requirements concerning resistance to damage. The discs will be sold in two versions. The cheaper compact version will be marked as SL-C and a bit bigger, more effective version will be marked as SL-M. The discs will be resistant to the compression forces up to 6 tons and bending forces up to 2 tons. What’s more, the disc is resistant to falls from 3 meters and it is also waterproof. The devices will be made of aluminum and sold with a set of stickers (which will enable their identification) as well as anti-slip rubber strips. SL-M will enable transfers at the level of 1000MB/s, whereas the SL-C series is to offer the speed of read-write speed at the level of 520-540 MB/s. As one could easily notice, the differences in the speed are almost twofold. 1). Sony SL-M with Accessories The discs will also have hardware encryption of data with the use of the 256-bit AES key, password protection and the Lifetime Checker tool, which will enable checking the state of the data carrier. In addition, the SSD Utility application will make it possible to install the updates which will introduce potential corrections and will improve the work of the disc. The discs will appear on sale in autumn 2019 in the versions with the capacities of 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The price is not known yet but one may expect that these will not be cheap devices.
