The first lens in most landscape photographers bag is a wide-angle. Many times capturing images using a wide-angle lens doesn't exactly turn out how we'd like. Dealing with such large wide fields of view, lens distortion, and keeping things proportional can be challenging. In this video I focus on what I'm thinking about when trying to compose my images. How do you select what to shoot in a sea of images, how do you compose your subject or even select a subject.

Of course there are so many decisions to make in landscape photography which is the beauty in the process. Many times figuring out where to start and going through a process can be hard to navigate. This video should help dissect a bit of that process and improve the quality of you own wide-angle images. Would love to know what you think and as always, thanks for watching.

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN 'Art' is a fast standard zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Maybe one day it finds itself on Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts, too.

In this week’s episode,  we discuss why you don't crop your photos enough and how you can fix it. Cropping is one of my favorite photo editing techniques. It gives you the ability to alter your composition after the fact, which is pretty cool if you think about it. But, many photographers don't use this incredible tool enough in my opinion. In this video, I'll review the three things I think about when deciding how best to crop a particular photos in order to create better visual impact. I hope you enjoy this week's video and as always thanks so much for watching! - Mark D.

Welcome to BHT Hong Kong Neon. If you've been following me for a while, you know of my many travels and film photography projects in Hong Kong. I was recently interviewed by @TheCooph talking about my Hong Kong Neon project, and I was featured as the cover article for Silvergrain Classics Magazine from Germany, again featuring my neon project. I shot it entirely on @CineStillFilm 800T and various film cameras, but mostly with my @LeicaCameraUSA M7 and 28mm Summicron.

@RivianOfficial Spaces Vancouver recently reached out and asked if I would be interested in exhibiting anything at their Brentwood location. I pitched my Hong Kong Neon project, and he was happy to help me showcase this project. Please join me on February 8th, 2024 from 6-9pm for my first solo exhibition featuring my project Hong Kong Neon. Please register here:

    https://events.rivian.com/hongkongneon

Thanks to everyone who helped me over the years to make this project possible. Thanks to Camera Film Photo for processing, scanning, and storing all my film; and Cinestillfilm for providing me with the film for this project. Thanks to @chrismeetschris and Ryan Savella of Arcade Original for your video footage from Hong Kong. Finally, thank you Rivian Spaces Vancouver for sponsoring this project and exhibition. If this exhibition is successful, we may take it on the road. If you wish to be a sponsor or help in any way, please contact me directly. Thank you and happy shooting!

Get interesting portraits with off camera flash using TTL and a trigger on the camera. This is a very typical way for people to work if they're doing weddings or events. It's an urban strong light that looks really interesting, to a really soft to the side light. So there's a real variety here. Let's take a look at getting that flash off from the camera using the Westcott FJ80se, a trigger and TTL.
